How to write a website brief that gets you a better quote
A simple project brief that helps developers give estimates based on the same pages, features, timeline, and outcome.
Quotes vary when developers receive different assumptions about the same project. A clear brief gives each team the same information, which makes cost, scope, and timeline easier to compare.
What to include
- What the site or app must let people do
- The expected pages or screens and the purpose of each one
- Required features such as bookings, payments, accounts, or a catalog
- Examples you like and the specific parts that work for you
- The target launch date and any fixed deadline
What you don't need to know yet
You do not need to choose the technology, final page count, or visual design before speaking with a developer. Describe the users, the problem, and the result you need.
Why this gets you better quotes
A vague brief creates room for missing features and later cost changes. A written list of required pages, actions, and integrations gives the quote a clear boundary.
